-Small group work with me, reading decodables aligned with our UFLI lessons -Handwriting practice -Daily Lexia Core 5 usage -Reading about and discussing Martin Luther King Jr. and his importance in our world. We will do some activities during center time to help with this. Next week in word study... -Daily Heggerty lesson where we focus on rhyming words, beginning and ending sounds, blending and segmenting one syllable words, manipulating words by adding, deleting or substituting sounds to make a new word -UFLI Lesson 22 and 23 that focuses on how k says /k/ and h says /h/ Next week in math... -Showing teens on double ten frames -Seats at a Party Number Story activity where students solve a problem and justify their answer -Number grid review Next week in writing... We started small moments last week. Students are working hard to hear sounds in words and write them on his or her paper. I could not be more proud of them and their hard work during writing time. Next week in social studies... We will continue our unit, "How do I get along with others?" this week. We will begin reading George and Martha, The Complete Stories of Two Best Friends, to help us learn and discuss what it means to get along with others. We will start list writing, by making a people I know list first. We will also make a grocery list, a wish list, an animal list and a to-do list. Encourage students to make different lists at home! Next week in science... On Monday, we will have a visit from an Environmental Education teacher to learn more about animals and their habitats throughout the seasons. We will also get to observe different natural artifacts. We will also chart the weather this week in our science notebooks and make some observational drawings of the weather that is happening around us. We completed our first small moment story last week. Students are completing three pages of writing that tell a story, like "First this happened, then this happened and last this happened." We are working to draw a WOW picture on each page and add words that we can as well. Next week in science... We will be taking a vacation with our class scientist, Mr. Panda. Students will make an observational drawing of the tree outside of our window. The tree is changing now that we are farther into fall. Ask your students about how and why it is changing!
