-Continued beginning sound practice focusing on c, h, f and d. -Continued handwriting practice with uppercase letters -Word of the week: and This week in Word Study... -Daily Heggerty lesson where we focus on rhyming words, blending and segmenting words into syllables, beginning and ending sounds and ABC work -UFLI Lesson 6 and 7 that focus on p /p/ and f /f/ Next week in math... -Pattern Block Graphing -Ten Bean Spill (Math game to practice combinations of 10) -Shape Practice -Number Story practice Next week in writing... We will "publish" our first piece of writing. Students will create a cover to go along with the story that they wrote and add any revisions to their piece of writing they select. Their published piece of writing will stay in the classroom. Our other pieces of writing will come home soon. Make sure to celebrate your student's writing when he or she brings it home, they have worked really hard! Next week in science... We will be continuing to learn about weather this week. Students will chart the weather. We should see a difference from the weather in September. Students will also make an observational drawing of the tree outside of our window. The tree is changing now that we are farther into fall. Ask your students about how and why it is changing! Until next week, Ms. Fata :)

Next week in literacy...
-Hearing beginning sounds and sorting pictures based on those sounds. We will be working with t, g, n and p -Handwriting practice -Word of the week: see -During our interactive read aloud time, we have been learning a lot about character traits, feelings and actions. -Students have book boxes in the classroom. We are working to build our book boxes with different texts that students can read throughout center time and quiet time. Each week, we will add a mini word book to it as well as other great texts for them. This week in Word Study... -Daily Heggerty lesson where we focus on rhyming words, blending and segmenting words into syllables, beginning and ending sounds and ABC work -UFLI Lesson 4 and 5 that focus on t /t/ and beginning CVC words Next week in math... -Ten Frames -Counting Collections: Counting different sets of items and matching to the correct number -Number stories with +1/-1 and +2/-2 -Continued practice with sorting Next week in writing... We will continue thinking about an event that happened to us and write about it, like playing a game, a family vacation, celebrating a holiday, etc. We are going to focus this week on how we can tell stories through illustrations and how we can represent a complicated idea on paper. Game: Introduction to addition and subtraction (+1/-1) -Introduction to Sorting with Attribute Blocks Next week in writing... We will start our first writing unit, "Small Moment" Narrative Writing. Students are really enjoying sharing their All About Me pages. We will focus this week on learning about ourselves and what makes each of us unique and special. SHAPE WEEK! Students will be learning about the following 2D shapes: -Triangles -Circles -Rectangles -Squares We will be: -learning about what makes each shape unique -creating shape collages -completing a shape craft to bring home Next week in writing... We will wrap up our illustration unit, by creating a self portrait and by drawing different people/characters in a specific setting. This will launch us nicely into our first writing unit, Small Moment Narrative writing. We will start that unit the following week. Next week in Social Studies... We will continue the unit, "Who am l?" during our morning meeting and closing circle times. We will engage in lots of read-alouds about this. Over this last week, students learned how to draw people. We learned about different hairstyles, faces, bodies, skin colors and more. This week, we will learn how to draw different things, like buildings, cars, boats, homes, etc. through directed drawings. Students were loving this this week and were doing such a good job learning to draw new things! Next week in Social Studies... We will be starting our first unit, "Who am I?" We will engage with this unit during morning meeting and closing circle time. Also, I am excited to have students begin sharing their All About Me page. Keep working on them at home and bring them in for your student to share when it is complete. This week in Social/Emotional Learning... Over this past week, we have thought a lot about our classroom community. Each student shared his or her hopes and dreams for their year in kindergarten. These were really special to hear. Next week, we will work together to build our classroom rules together and will establish classroom jobs. Until next week, Ms. Fata :) It was a great second week of school! Morning meeting has been so special. Students are learning each other's names, making connections with others and having fun with their classmates right as they come into the classroom!

This week in math... -Making graphs of our class birthdays and age -Representing numbers in different ways -Describing 2-dimensional shapes using specific math vocabulary (sides, vertices) This week in writing... Students will begin Writer's Workshop with a two-week mini unit on illustrations. In kindergarten, students begin writing by telling a story through an illustration. We will do a series of directed drawings together to help students create pictures that will later inspire stories. This week in Social/Emotional Learning... -Learning how to use words such as please, thank you, I'm sorry with peers -Learning how to make a new friend -Learning how to share and negotiate with peers during center time We will be starting social studies and science soon! Students will be introduced to Writer's Workshop this week. Students will begin Writer's Workshop with a two-week mini unit on illustrations. In kindergarten, students begin writing by telling a story through illustration. We will do a series of directed drawings together to help students create pictures that will later inspire stories. I am excited to begin this this week! This week in Social/Emotional Learning... -Getting to know our classmates through morning meeting -Sharing about ourselves during morning meeting and other times of the day As this month continues, we will add science and social studies into our schedule.
