We will continue to learn about: -Character Traits -Retelling stories -Text Connections (text to self) -Problem/Solution -Making predictions/inferences Next week in word study... -Daily Heggerty lesson where we focus on rhyming words, beginning and ending sounds, blending and segmenting one syllable words, manipulating words by adding, deleting or substituting sounds to make a new word -UFLI Lesson 44 and 45 where we learn the ck /k/ rule and the digraph, sh. Next week in math... -Dice Subtraction -Craft-stick bundles to help understand place value for tens and ones -Birds on a Wire story problem to practice combinations of 10 -PLEASE practice writing and identifying teen numbers at home. Next week in writing... We have successfully started poetry! Students will continue to listen to poetry, read poetry and write poetry. Next week in science... PLTW with Ms. Schemanske. During this month, we will also begin our last science unit, Living it Up! which is about living and nonliving things. We started with Wemberly Worried and will read Chrysanthemum, Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse, Owen and Julius, the Baby of the World. We will finish opinion writing this week by publishing a piece of our writing. Students will be writing their opinion on their favorite part of school, and giving reasons why that is their opinion. We are continuing to finish our last letter. When your student is complete, he or she will be able to mail the letter! We will wrap up letter writing this week. We need your help! We will be writing letters to someone and mailing them once they are complete to the recipients. I need help knowing who your student is writing to and what that person's address is. It can be a friend, family member, whoever! Next week in social studies... We will learn about goods and services and how this helps us with our needs and wants. Students will engage in a sort of goods and services and learn how we get goods and what services he or she may use as a child. Until next week, Ms. Fata :) As a part of black history month, we have learned about moments and people in black history that have changed the world. We read about a different person or event each day and discuss it as a class. We will continue this throughout the rest of the month as well as engage in other activities with our buddies, like read-alouds.

Students have been doing awesome with letter writing. Students learned about the different parts of a letter, like the greeting, closing, date, body of the letter, etc. Students will write letters throughout the week and soon bring some home to share. Please encourage them to continue this at home, as we talked about how we can make thank you letters, birthday letters, feel better letters and more. At the end of the week, we will learn about dental health and make a list of how we can keep our teeth and mouth clean and healthy. Next week in social studies... We will continue our unit, "How do I get what I need and want?" by learning about our needs vs. our wants. We will also begin thinking about ways we can get our needs and wants. Students will learn about who we can write letters to, what a letter includes and more. They will practice writing letters to their second grade buddies. Next week in social studies... We will wrap up for our "How Do I Get Along with Others?" unit. We will then begin our "How do I Get What I Need and Want?" unit by learning about what a need is and what a want is. When we publish, we look for our best piece of writing and make a cover for it, with a title, picture and the author. We will add this to our writing portfolio. Next week in social studies... This week we will continue to learn how how to get along with others. This week, we will talk about fairness, responsibility and learning new ways to solve problems with our peers. We are focusing on starting our sentences with a capital letter, spacing between our words and ending our sentences with some type of punctuation (period or exclamation point). We are also continuing to think about our wow pictures. Next week in social studies... We will continue our unit, "How do I get along with others?" this week. We will begin reading George and Martha, The Complete Stories of Two Best Friends, to help us learn and discuss what it means to get along with others. Next week in writing... We started small moments last week. Students are working hard to hear sounds in words and write them on his or her paper. I could not be more proud of them and their hard work during writing time. Next week in social studies... We will continue our unit, "How do I get along with others?" this week.
